Wairimu Njane was born and brought up in Nyandarua county, Oljororok constituency of Charagita ward from a family of twelve and is also married in the same area. She attended Matindiri Primary School and Kahuhia Girls High School for her O levels before joining Kiambu High School for her A levels. She later joined the Cooperative College of Kenya where she graduated with a Diploma in Cooperative Management. She was motivated to become a politician by the needs of the people from her ward where the majority live below the poverty line, a lack of quality education, poor infrastructure and a lack of clean water for domestic use and consumption. Her vision is to ensure that the needs of people of Charagita ward are adequately met.
Wairimu has more than two decades of experience both as a cooperative officer and banker. After resigning from a banking job, she founded her own private business where she trains individuals on small scale business skills and group dynamics. Immediately after college she worked with the government as a cooperative officer in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet for a number of years before joining the banking industry where she worked for K-Rep bank that today goes by the name Sidian.
At the community level, she has largely been involved in community affairs where she is involved in paying school fees for the needy and connecting needy students with donors. She also participates in community fundraisers for both local women and youth groups.
Charagita ward doesn’t have enough ECDE classrooms to cater for the high number of children joining school and the existing classes are not well equipped with enough learning material for the children. Wairimu purposes to upgrade the existing ECDE classes across the ward, building new ones and ensuring that the centres are well stocked with children learning materials.
Youth and women live in poverty due to a lack of opportunities. Wairimu purposes to mobilize both women and the youth to work in groups as teams and organize for exchange programs for them with other wards and counties across the country. She also purposes to work closely with the area MP to encourage parents of school dropouts both boys and girls who are victims of early pregnancies to go back to school.
Feeder roads in Charagita ward are neglected hence hindering on economic development. Wairimu purposes to prioritize the upgrading and tarmacking of feeder roads within the ward through lobbying for funds from the county government and donors.
