Sethie is the second born in a family of ten members. She attended village schools for both her primary and secondary school. She holds a diploma in social work and development studies from Eastern Kenya Integrated College. She was motivated to vie for leadership position after seeing her people facing problems in life and leaders failing the residents of Lower Kaewa/Kaani ward miserably. She wants to change this type of governance once she clinches of the Member of County Assembly. Her vision is to see a self reliant Lower Kaewa ward where everyone will be empowered economically.
Sethie has actively been engaging herself in helping the bright and needy children in Lower Kaeni ward to get secondary education. This has been a great achievement since children from poor families have been able to access secondary education through the program. Among them are students who were able to join Mumbuni boys’ high school and Nakuru girls’ high school. Additionally, she is the chairlady of St. Joseph Mutito catholic choir.
For a long time due to poor and corrupt leadership, the students from Lower Kaewa/ Kaani ward have been lacking the county bursaries due to poor representation and unfair distribution of the bursaries. This has made needy students from poor families suffer forcing others to drop school. If elected, Sethie will ensure fair representation in the distribution of bursaries to meet the demand. She hopes to start a kitty for soliciting funds for fees which she intends to start it off with a portion of her salary as the MCA.
In this community, women are not fully empowered economically. The few that are empowered engage in small businesses. On the other hand, youth who have dropped out school also end up being jobless due to lack of vocational training centers. She hopes to help women to establish businesses of their own with help of development partners and willing existing Non Governmental Organizatins to provide funds and train both youth and women on relevant skills. She will also introduce home industries like beads and basket weaving, pottery and knitting for women. The youth with talents and skills will be nurtured through theatre groups, clubs and tournaments to identify and nurture talents like artists, comedians, and soccer players among others.
People of Lower Kaani ward walk for long distances to search water for human consumption and domestic use. As an MCA, she will work with county government to sink boreholes and establish a dam to provide people with safe water. She will also empower women groups to buy water tanks at least one in every household to store water during rainy seasons.
