Sarah Malel was born and raised in Kabobo village, Ziwa ward of Uasin Gishu county in a family of thirteen. The mother of three is married in Kapsang village of Ziwa ward but she relocated to Kimumu ward in Eldoret where she has lived with her family for the past fifteen years. Sarah is perturbed by the problem of inequality amongst the residents of Kimumu ward and this is what motivated her to contest so that she can try and bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. Her motivation is to offer social economic development. In 2013, she contested the same Kimumu ward MCA seat on a Narc Kenya party and emerged second.
Sarah Malel is a renowned business woman in Eldoret town where she is the treasurer of the Eldoret East Jua Kali Association. She is also a member of the Eldoret Jua Kali Sacco that offers soft loans to members and small-scale traders from within Eldoret town. As the treasurer of the Eldoret East Association she was instrumental in negotiations that led to the formation of the Sacco.She has also served as the Kimumu ward chairperson of a community based organization referred to as Setekimoi that empowers its members through providing loans for projects and trainings on entrepreneurial and financial skills. She also serves as the chairperson of Daystar Women Group and treasurer of Chelemei Adventist Women Group both of which practices table banking.
Kimumu ward despite being in an urban cosmopolitan area do not have enough public ECDE classes forcing parents to enrol their children in private institutions that are expensive for the majority of residents who are peasant. Sarah has prioritized lobbying the county assembly to set aside funds to construct more public ECDE classes so as to make education accessible to the majority most of whom cannot afford to sustain their children in private schools.
Sewer lines, the drainage system and feeder roads within Kimumu ward are in a very sorry state thus residents are often hit by diseases caused by poor hygiene due to open sewer lines. Feeder roads are not tarmacked and have pot holes with very poor drainage systems. Sarah purposes to lobby the county assembly through a motion to set aside funds for construction of feeder roads, renovation of sewer lines and the drainage system.
Kimumu ward like many other urban wards in the country faces the problem of jobless youths who are a danger to the society since they have turned to drugs, crime and prostitution. Sarah purposes to invest in the youth through lobbying the county government to issue tenders to youth groups and also try and encourage unemployed youth to form groups and help them access soft loans to help grow their businesses.
