Gladys Inyanje was born and raised in Serem village, Shamakhokho ward of Hamisi constituency in a family of eight. The mother of five is married in Chavakali ward of Vihiga county. She schooled at Musudzu Primary School and Kaimosi Girls High School before joining the Multimedia University of Science and Technology where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She comes from a family of leaders and her grandfather served as a prominent chief during the colonial era hence she this is what motivates her to continue the family legacy. Her vision is to bring social economic development to the people of Chavakali ward.

Gladys has worked as a teacher for over three decades where she has served in different schools and held various administrative and leadership positions. She served as a senior teacher for five years at Chavakali Primary School after which she was promoted to the position of a deputy headteacher and transferred to Erojo Primary School where she worked for eight years but she left teaching briefly to further her education.

She has also served as thee treasurer of the Vihiga Teachers Education Scheme (VTES) an organization that help teachers from Vihiga save money and enables them to access credit facilities. The members are also guaranteed dividends from the shares they hold in the organization.She has also served as a volunteer children’s officer (VCO) in Sabatia sub county where she was charged with solving children issues.
